Hi, Ignacio,

4) but from the GUI, opening the file through '/File/Open data/User file'  I obtain the error

xmlParseFile failed on /home/ignacio/gretl/file.dat

If I call the gui from a terminal, gretl is reporting this error on the terminal screen:

/home/ignacio/gretl/file.dat:1: parser error : Start tag expected, '<' not found
xt    yt

Some how Gretl is clever (in the other ways to open the file), to do an Import before presenting data to us. You cannot open in GUI a non Gretl file (only if you can import it).

Going with the GUI, you  /File/Open data/Import/text_CVS the file opens correctly.

In my OpenSUSE 12.2 64bit, I cannot even list the file in the Open User file menu, because is not .gdt.

I did rename the file to file.gdt and observed the same error you got.

Best Regards,

Hélio Guilherme
