What do you think it is the best way to remove the quotation marks from a CVS file?

Some days ago I needed to remove the quotation marks (") and I saw this was not easy in gretl because the command 'string' does not allow escape sequences. I did it in this (rather complicated) way using sprintf: (the original CVS file was in string s)
