I am seeing the same behavior here with Ubuntu Linux 10.04.
I am not sure what is my version of GTK, the gretl configure script says
"Build with GTK version: 2.0" but I am seeing in synaptic
libgtk2.0-0 version 2.20.1-0ubuntu2.1
