I think I've figured a way to build current gnuplot in an XP-compatible way. There'a trial executable at

This is a drop-in replacement for the wgnuplot.exe in the gretl package. I'd be interested to hear if it actually works!

(For anyone else: please note that this exe will probably crash on current Windows -- it's a special for XP.)
