Hello,
I've opened the same session file on ubuntu 13.04 and windows xp

ps: if necessary I can attached the session file

Mihai sent me the session file (too big for the list), and the problem lay with reading back big matrices stored as XML. Our method was too slow. This is now speeded up greatly in gretl CVS and the new code will go into the snapshots shortly. (Actually I'm not sure why the read was much faster on Windows, maybe there are some highly optimized string functions in the
C library.)
