I agree, but I am teaching students who need everything to be through the GUI. If you add obs of the explanatory variables, gretl does a nice job of calculating predictions and prediction intervals using the forecast command in the model window after running an OLS.  I have not tried this with anything more complex than a basic ols, but I don't need anything more complex.

To view all series in spreadsheet mode, do /Data/select all (or Ctrl+A)
then /Data/Edit values.

But this view is intended for editing of series (inputting specific values
for observations). I'm not sure what you mean by "using the forecast
function", or how the spreadsheet would help in calculating predictions.
For that, it seems to me, one would just use a script.
