The current snapshots for Windows and Mac (quartz) expose our new support for dbnomics.
Extremely nice and useful!

Testing is encouraged!
First random impressions:
- going to Eurostat, then "general" and clicking the button to list series, I get "no series found".
(also for INE-SPAIN and 4349)

- after having the window with dataset listing for Eurostat open: then going back to the window with providers, changing to (say) BCEAO, and clicking list datasets switches the focus to the Eurostat window, but doesn't update it to BCEAO.

- The first imported series apparently determines the dataset range; I tried to import another one with a few more extra obs, the import went fine, but the obs at the end were just lost; I kind of understand that's how gretl has always worked, but I wonder if this could be generalized when working with databases.

- I have to say the multitude of windows that this handling involves might be a practical problem; again, we have already several times discussed the general design decision to have a bunch of separate gretl windows, and I have kept silent (I think) in recent years. But often one of the first remarks I get from students or interns whom I introduce to gretl is "can this be changed to a single window?", and all I can say is, no, sorry. With this dbnomics interface, this issue perhaps becomes more prevalent. However, not a short-term concern, of course.

- In the main toolbar the tooltip pop-up for the database icon has always said "gretl database", perhaps this should be reformulated now that it also points to dbnomics. Similar for the menu label "gretl native".

To get documentation on the dbnomics function package (version 1) which supports the whole show, go to the listing of function packages "On local machine", select dbnomics, and click the PDF icon. There's info there on accessing dbnomics via the command line.

Haven't looked at that yet.

thanks,
