Then try using the OS X GUI to delete /Applications/Gretl.app before
installing the new version. Or if you don't have any administrative
rights on the system, do

rm -f ~/.gretl2rc
mkdir ~/Applications

then try installing Gretl.app to the Applications folder in your
Home folder.
