I have downloaded 2021c Gretl, unpacked it into a new directory. But INSTALL 2k does nothing to install the programme.

Advice welcomed please

Sorry, I don't understand. What platform are you on? "Unpacking" sounds unusual, normally you would run an installer (but there are exceptions). And what's INSTALL 2k?
