Maybe this is the problem. Gretl transcribes Greek to English characters?​

Just to be sure: You are using a recent (the latest) snapshot version of gretl on Windows?

​Lets see this: I try to open the file Perry.gdt that is inside the folder "τεστ" (test in Greek) that is on my desktop.

What's weird is that in this error message the folder name appears as "test" in Latin letters.
