I reinstalled several time and this is persistent...
It used to work fine... I think after an update I cannot reach the sample data files anymore...

Ah OK, you never get to the new window with the tabs (that's also where the network button is).
Then I guess the installation is somehow corrupted, for whatever reason. I think you have to reinstall gretl.
