Ah OK, you never get to the new window with the tabs (that's also where the network button is).From my other laptop I get the usual tabs.From my main laptop as you can see from the images below when I select "sample file" I get the error message.
Then I guess the installation is somehow corrupted, for whatever reason. I think you have to reinstall gretl.
