It does not work! the exact same file in an other folder with no Greek
characters in the path name works.

Can you remind us of the exact issue, please? Or at least check that I have it right. As I recall you have a folder with a name containing specifically Greek characters, and inside that, a file you're trying to open in gretl, but it won't open.

Yes!

Just to nail this down as completely as possible: What's the version of Windows, and what's the language setting on the computer?

Windows 10 in English

And what exactly is the name of the file inside the Greek-named folder?

Lets see this: I try to open the file Perry.gdt that is inside the folder "τεστ" (test in Greek) that is on my desktop.

You get this:

And this happens any time there is a folder in the path with Greek letters in it.
I notices this since my students had problem opening the files. Even in Windows with Greek as the language.

And finally, what's the exact error message you get?

You get this when you double click on the file in the folder:

And you get this if you try to open the file from the menu of Gretl:

Oh, and in case it happens to make any difference, how exactly are you trying to open the file from gretl?

The reason is ask all these questions is that some time ago I mocked up something resembling your situation on a laptop that runs Windows 10, and after applying some multiligual fixes I got the file to open OK. So I need to know the exact difference between our cases.

Thanks!

Allin
