Hi everybody,

some of you may remember the JMulTi Java- and Gauss-based software and some related books (co-) authored by Helmut Lütkepohl. Thanks to Jack, the example datasets used in those books and that existed in JMulTi format are now directly available in gretl format. See under https://sourceforge.net/projects/gretl/files/datafiles/ and watch out for the "HLBooks..." zip or targ.gz archives, which holds a number of .gdt files.

(We should probably also add a link to the wiki page...)

Furthermore, it may be useful to know that the import of JMulTi style datafiles does (temporarily) not work directly with the latest gretl version 2023c. Here's a workaround:

One can delete the header of a JMulTi file -- that is, the leading material:
/* ... */and <...>
and then it should be read OK as a "CSV" format file (but without automatic recognition of the starting date).

The recognition of JMulTi dat files has been restored in snapshots and what will be the next gretl version (presumably 2024a). But again, if it's just about the teaching and example files that came with the book(s), you can just use the pre-converted versions given above.

thanks

sven
