Ok, but how about the problem with the import of eviews' files? I had no problem installing gretl. Could anyone check it too?

I have installed the snapshot on Win 8 (8.1 I think, 32bit on 32bit)
today, and while OLS works, I get an error dialog window when I try to
estimate an ARCH model.

Um, what does the error message say? And what, specifically, were
you requesting that produced the error?

Roughly re-translated:
"couldn't create dir such-and-such
C:\Users\<.....>\AppData\Roaming\gretl\gretl.pid: No such file or directory
<again>
C:\Program Files\gretl\doc\hansl-primer.pdf: No such file or dir
C:\Users\<.....>\AppData\Roaming\gretl\doc\hansl-primer.pdf: No such
file or dir
C:\Users\<.....>\Desktop\dummytest.inp: No such file or dir
<again>
"

The pdf and inp files had been used in the previous gretl version (as
usual, I just installed the new one over the old one without cleaning
up, it "always" has worked).

I tried to do a GARCH(1,1) or ARCH(1) via the GUI, no additional
regressors, with constant.

Thanks to Juan Estévez for testing. I've now tested too, using both the 32-bit Windows snapshot and the 64-bit version, on 64-bit Windows 8, in both English and German. I can't provoke any problem with GARCH (or anything else).

Sven, your account of that "error dialog window" looks extremely odd, in that none of the messages have anything to do with GARCH estimation (and in fact they're probably all benign anyway). I think your installation must be borked. But if a delete-and-reinstall doesn't fix things, please post a screen shot of the response you're getting.

Allin
