 But, I think one little error remains. The option *.pdf does not produce any graphs.

Oof, thanks, you're right: somehow I screwed up in generalizing
from "gnuplot" (which was working, I swear!) to "boxplots".  I
think this should be fixed in CVS/snapshot now.
