Ignacio is right, the "labels" command purely and simply prints the existing descriptive labels, if any. However, at some point I made "label" (without an 's' on the end) some sort of alias to "setinfo". This was not a good idea, and I'm now removing it in CVS. It's not documented and it doesn't work, so it doesn't have much going for it! The right way to change a variable's descriptive label (via script or console) is as documented: setinfo varname -d "New descriptive label" This change may not show up at once in the main window in the GUI; if not, you can do /Data/Refresh window, as Ignacio says. It was misleading to me that the same command (setinfo) didn't produce the same result if executed in a script rather than in the command line: used in a script, the window is automatically updated.
