If you do, and it does not take too much time, could you include a GUI menu
entry for the difftest command in this version 1.6.5?
Possibly under a new menu entry Tools > Nonparametric test statistic
calculator?
Maybe it could justify a 1.6.5 version?
Thanks in advance.

py4gretl updates
by Sven Schreiber
Hi to all "cointegration junkies" (as Jack calls them),
I have just uploaded new versions (0.9.3) of the three py4gretl function
packages, fixing some problems related to temp files and communication
between gretl and python. The functionality is the same; results should
also mostly remain the same in those cases where the old versions didn't
fail.
However, if you specified unrestricted exogenous variables along with no
restricted exogenous variables, you got wrong results! Because this was
due to a bug in gretl, (and because of some other internal changes), the
required gretl version for py4gretl is now set to >=1.6.3.
I'm happy about any feedback you might have.
cheers,
sven

Oh yeah! I noted this and wrote about too last saturday !
If so, did you have or have not earlier Windows snapshots installed
between 1.6.2 and 1.6.3?
Again, yes! I have. But had no troubles.
Or is it just my screwed-up system?
Not only yours, I guess :-)

exporting to excel
by Chris
Hi,
Is it possible to get gretl to put output into an excel spreadsheet? It
would be great to be able to build vba scripts in excel to do analysis and
output the coefficients back to a specified range in excel for further vba
tweaking

econometrics question
by Chris
Hi,
If you run a regression like Y= XB + GH + error where GH is unobserved so
the actual regression you will run is Y = XB + (GH + error) and then use the
output to forecast various things. If G has variables in it that trend in
one direction or another over time ( i.e population in a given area) then
will the forecast get less accurate as we get away from the time period used
to estimate the coefficients and if so, is there some test that can be used
to give an idea of how often the model should be re-estimated? This would
also mean that the R^2 should decrease as we get away from the time period
used for estimation right?
Thanks,
Chris

Thanks. I see what the problem is: it's the "display name" of the

Does this mean I can write "Gauß'sche" in the German translation again? ;-)
Yes, that should work now.
Allin.
I'm afraid it doesn't yet ! At least for the "Quantité d'engrais" label ! I have the same trouble !
By the way, when Gretl automatically computes/ transforms variables --such as log, squared and so on -- it adds a description; Could be possible to set the display name as well ?
Have a good weekend !

Re: [Gretl-users] loop command again

Well, I think I've now done that, in CVS and a new
Windows snapshot.
Something is still missing ! Having installed Gretl last Windows snapshot, the loop works well with "--progressive"
but doesn't store the scalars it should. Here's the script (estimating a Gompertz model):
genr time
loop for (y_max=400; y_max<=700; y_max+=10) --progressive
genr lvt = log((y_max/taux)-1)
ols lvt 0 time --quiet
genr scr = $ess
store "balayage.gdt" y_max scr
endloop
and what I find in the output file is the trend vector -- become the "constant" vector (filled by 1)--, the "taux" series filled by taux's 1st observation and "lvt" series.
2. My computer runs on XP french version, but Gretl 1.6.3 always starts in english. I changed the language into french through the DOS window but had no result !
3. Is there somebody else having scripts not colored or that's just me ?
Thank you, :-)

Minor bug for gretl's interaction with R
by andreas.karlsson@ltv.se
Hi,
I have now downloaded and installed the latest Windows snapshot of gretl.
Regarding the bug for gretl's interaction with R, I see that it is now
mainly fixed.
A minor bug that is still hanging on:
Using Tools > Start GNU R results in an error message: "File not found.",
but R is still started correctly, and in the in Tools > Preferences
>General > Programs > Command to launch GNU R box the correct path to R is
added.
After closing R and using Tools > Start GNU R again, the error message has
disappeared and R starts correctly.
However, after closing gretl and restarting it the path to R has again
disappeared from the Tools > Preferences >General > Programs > Command to
launch GNU R box, and when clicking on Tools > Start GNU R the error
message: "File not found." appears again, but R is still started correctly,
and in the in Tools > Preferences >General > Programs > Command to launch
GNU R box the correct path to R is added.
Thanks for a great software!
Med vänliga hälsningar / Best regards

Just to confirm, I have downloaded and installed the new gretl 1.6.3 from
sourceforge, and the error message has disappeared.
