new language

Hi,
Just one question: How can I handle to translate Gretl into a new language?

In my opinion, Allin's 2nd option fits the best even if I would have prefer the 1st one to avoid confusion.

I do agree too!

I think that the localized settings should be abandoned and gretl should
accept only decimal points. The current situation is too error prone.

Yes, you're right. And your tests too! But to reproduce the bug you need to display the 2 windows in continuity. So, open at first the "Statistical tables" window, make it crash by entering the wrong decimal character (depending on the locale) and close it (or if you want even leave it displayed). Then open the "Distribution graph" window. You can either leave it as is with the default values (0,1) or enter some valid values for the mean and the std dev. Click Ok. Are you getting the error message "Extraneous character '.' in data", aren't you ?

installation problems
by Summers, Peter
Dear all,
I use gretl in my introductory econometrics class, and one of my
students is experiencing a strange (imho) problem installing it on her
computer. In the course of trying to help her out I've discovered that
there seems to be something wrong with the gretl-1.6.5.exe file on the
windows page. After saving this file to disk, it turns out to only be
about 21kB instead of 9MB. Trying to run it gives the error message "The
NTVDM CPI has encountered an illegal instruction. CS:0551 IP:02bd OP:63
6f 6e 74 65"
OK, so on to the current snapshot. This installs fine on my machine, but
she gets an error saying "Error creating INI entry in file
"c:\windows\wgnuplot.ini". This sounds like a registry issue (maybe?) -
at any rate it falls within my range of ignorance.
Unfortunately I don't know what type of machine (other than windows)
she's using - I'll try to find out.
Has anyone out there encountered anything similar?
TIA!

I agree with Sven!
Anyway, the close button on the toolbar seems to do things quite well.
Why not to abolish the big button on the bottom?
Otherwise, there are two small bugs in the "Tools" menu.
1. On the "Test calculator" window, when you check the "Assume std dev ..." option and click Ok a pop-up appears saying "Bad PNG header: Got bytes e0 22 0" and it doesn't produce the distribution graph.
2. On the "Statistical tables" window, try to introduce 0.2 as the right-tail probability for the normal distribution. As I'm using the french version the point obviously doesn't work and I changed it by the comma "," and that's fine. But, when I choose the distribution graph menu for the normal distribution N(0,1) I got the same error message "Extraneous character '.' in data"???

Time for a new stable release version 1.6.6? [Was: Error with periodogram]

I think this is a reason to release a new stable version 1.6.6 with this
problem fixed. It is not good to have a last stable release (version 1.6.5)
with this problem.

Bug at Poisson distribution graph.
by Hélio Guilherme
Hi All,
Generating a Poisson distribution graphic breaks because a misnamed
parameter to Gnuplot.
Please rename "lambda1" to "lambda0":
~/gretl/gui2> diff calculator.c.old calculator.c
639c639
< fprintf(fp, "lambda1=%g\n", parms[0]);
---
> fprintf(fp, "lambda0=%g\n", parms[0]);
Using OpenSuse 10.2.
Cheers,
Hélio

gretl translations and translationproject.org
by Allin Cottrell
Hello translators,
I've just had my knuckles rapped for failing to consistently route
gretl translation through translationproject.org (see
http://translationproject.org/domain/gretl.html ).
There was a period when the tp robot seemed to be unresponsive and
I went over to mostly just using CVS. However, if the robot
problems are fixed, it probably would be a good idea to get back
on track.
Could translators please take a look at the tp page and see if
things need updating there? Thanks very much.
