Cannot Find Font Arial
by Paul Jones
Hi, I'm running Linux, Debian unstable, and I am getting an error
message everytime I try to display a time series plot in gretl.
The error is:
"Could not find/open font when opening font "arial", using internal
non-scalable font"
The thing is when I look in Gretl's configuration/temp folder (~/.gretl)
I see the time series plot I just tried to make.
I've tried setting the environmental variables GNUPLOT_DEFAULT_GDFONT
and GDFONTPATH with no success, and the arial font is installed.
I don't know where this error is coming from exactly so I can't even
begin to figure out how to fix it, and I use gretl all the time these
days so it is bugging me. In fact I have a project due tomorrow.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
I deleted my configuration files, now the error message is asking for
"Vera." I imagine this isn't a Gretl problem, does anyone have an idea
of what it could be?

sorry about the last time I tried posting this. I should know better.

plot problems
by snvv101
Hello
I use gretl ver. 1.8.0 in debian with gnuplot ver 4.2.
The first line of the graph output (file) of gretl is :
set term png truecolor small size 680,400
and gnuplot fails. If I remove that line then I can create the graph.
Is is possible to configure gretl not to include the first line of the gnuplot
file?
Thank you
snvv

Heckit goodness of fit
by Starr, Brian
Is there a straightforward way to display a goodness of fit statistic for the Heckit two step estimator? I'm not seeing one listed in the standard output.
Thanks,

Correcting for inflation
by Raz Lev
Hello again,
I am trying to convert data to account for inflation.
I have an excel (or variable, whichever is better) with the cumulative inflation for every quarter between 1980 and 1990 (my period of interest) and in gretl data about salaries that contain, amongst else, the wage, and the year and the quarter in which the sample was taken.
What I want to do is to multiply all the wages from samples from quarter i, year j with the right inflation factor.
Any hints on how to do this?
thanks very much,
Raz

Generating a series with an if condition
by Raz Lev
hi
I am trying to run the following:
genr monthly_w_c = if (V4 < 6) V49/1000 else V49 endif
and am getting an error "The symbol 'if' is undefined"
is there a way to generate the series in one command or do I need to create a list of 1/1000s and 1s and multiply?
thanks

"Clustered errors" option
by Brian Quistorff
Hello, I'm a bit new to Gretl, so please excuse me if this is obvious.
When running a regression, is there a way to cluster the errors around a
particular variable? I want to allow the variance-covariance matrix of the
errors to have a block-diagonal setup. In Stata, it's called "clustered
robust". Is this option available? Thanks very much.
Cheers,
Brian

At the bottom of the Heckit output is a "rho" metric. Does anyone know what it is measuring?

R: Re: [Gretl-users] Gretl and X-12-ARIMA and TRAMO/SEATS
by deriv@libero.it
I tried to do your suggestion but it does not work, in the variable menu in
Gretl the mentioned 2 programms are visible in light grey but they are not
openable when you click on them.

Running the self-installers should be sufficient (then re-start
gretl after doing so).
Do you have a seasonal time series dataset loaded? Try, for
example, the supplied Ramanathan data file data9-7.
