Re: [Gretl-users] Combining variables from samples

sven,
I am drawing the two samples from different sub-sets - each sub-set was
conditioned on a different dummy variable i.e. they are different
populations from which I am drawing a sample.

centering series and lists
by Stefano
Simple question: unless I missed it, it seems that there is not an
equivalent of cdemean for series (and hence lists), i.e. a command
centering on the mean a given series or all the series included in a
list. In other words, something like diff(list) which computes their
first differences. Sometimes it could come handy.
bye, and thanks as usual!
Stefano

Average ME
by J. I.
Hey GRETL-USER
May you can help me with a problem.
I tried to generate AME with the
script from
http://www.learneconometrics.com/gretl/using_gretl_for_POE4.pdf
p. 379-380, but it wont work.
The Error:
? ame(&coef, x)
Liste hat 12 Elemente, aber Länge des Vektors b ist 13
*** error in function ame, line 1
What means the list is short by one.
List x is all regressors (11) of a ordered probit plus the constant. So it got 12 elements. May it is the DV missig for the Calc? But where to put it?
Thanks
J.I.

GUI points
by Allin Cottrell
I have one thing to announce and one question about gretl's menus.
Announcement: Following some off-list discussion, there's now a new
item in the right-click menu when you have two or more series
selected in the main gretl window, namely a check on collinearity,
in the form of the condition number of a matrix composed of those
series. (You get the choice of including a constant in the matrix.)
Question: In the model menu there's a Tests menu and also an
Analysis menu. If we think of "Tests" as indicating hypothesis tests
(of model specification and/or regarding the properties of the error
term) then there are two entries which don't really belong there,
and arguably would be better placed under "Analysis", namely
"Influential observations" and "Collinearity". However, if we were
to move them some users may start asking, "Whatever happened to the
XXX test?" So: should we move them?

I think they should be moved. The new location may require some time to
get used to, but it is definitely more natural.
thanks!

split-window editor view: pasting affects both panes
by Sven Schreiber
Hi,
I'm trying to use the split-window view of the script editor. When I
paste something in the upper half, the location/view in the lower window
half also changes -- apparently it moves close to where the upper half's
view is.
This kind of seems to defeat the purpose of the split view. Do others
experience this as well?
(latest windows snapshot)
thanks,
sven

Dear all,
I just tried to compile the latest git version (using the usual commands

To users of logit_burr.gfn or LOGIT_HETERO.gfn packages
by Sven Schreiber
Hello,
again a message about function package reorganization, this time
concerning the two Logit model related packages logit_burr.gfn and
LOGIT_HETERO.gfn by Artur Tarassow.
These packages were just removed from the server, because as of today
there is a new contributed function package "BMST.gfn" that replaces
both of them, also by Artur. (BMST = binary model specification tests)
You have to adjust your scripts if you have used one of the previous
packages.
BMST also includes new stuff related to Probit, not just Logit. Thanks a
lot to Artur for these features.
cheers,
Sven
