Probably a good idea. The gretl installer comes with the files
wgnuplot.exe and freetype6.dll, which are both placed in the main
gretl installation directory (by default c:\userdata\gretl). It
should not be necessary to make any manual changes in paths to
programs.
One possible scenario that can cause this sort of problem: (a)
student installs gretl; (b) student then drags the whole gretl
folder to some new location. This will break things, since the
actual paths will no longer correspond with those written into the
Windows registry on installation.
