Dear Artur, thank you!  It installed Gretl version 2017d beautifiully. It worked fine for OLS, but if I load my function it tells me that gretl 2021c is needed. I tried to update to the newest version by installing it with ./configure... and got the same message (please install lapack) again. I shall follow your extensive instructions to-morrow.
