Many thanks. The idea is to then create a candidate list for deletion.
The if statement helps fill the list and then we can delete the list in
the end. Allin's example works very well.

What exactly do you mean by "doesn't allow"? I suspect that you get
some error message like "series in use", right?>
If so, you could perhaps start a fresh gretl session. The 'clear'
