Problem 1) was fixed a while ago in CVS (since we don't have
CVS access right now I can't say exactly when).
Problem 2) is now fixed in my source tree, and in the
snapshots for Windows and OS X, and also in the temporary
source update file:

Note: DO NOT attempt to use the source update file unless
your copy of gretl CVS was up-to-date as of 2007-07-16.
