Yes, Jack is right: Mac users should use the .tar.gz files. We
should probably add a note to this effect to the gretl data page.
Certainly, the Windows self-installers (.exe) will not work on the
Mac.
It might be possible to create a more user-friendly packaging of
the data files for the Mac (e.g. dmg format, with some sort of
auto-detection for where the data ought to be installed), but my
feeling is that this should probably come from the Mac-using
community.
