I might just mention some characteristics of the MS Vista
installation on this machine. It's a clean image of a
professionally designed and tested software load (from Wake Forest
University's IT department), up-to-date with Microsoft's patches
and supplemented _only_ by known good free software (mingw, gretl,
R, TeX). No instant messenging or chat programs running, no
malware, and no third-party malware/virus detection stuff running
either. No Internet Explorer or Outlook running.
