Thanks for the email, my confidence is boosted that it should run, I
will look at my file and see if I have something in it that is
corrupt. I hit the panic button when I brought up this new expensive
machine and GRETL crashed.

I have not experienced a crash yet on my 64bit win7pro. I loaded the
(larger) barrow lee data from the internet and could sort. I importet an
excel sheet with no problems.
Maybe you need to be more specific about your data. (structure, data
types etc.). Have you tried to import the data as csv? (save as text/csv
in Excel and import that file to gretl) does the same crash happen again?
