Still hoping for a development of the univariate structural modelling
forecast function to include exogenous variables. Or should I also suggest
that on the tracker ....feature/requests too.

Yes, it would. You could file a feature request on the tracker
(
https://sourceforge.net/p/gretl/feature-requests/).
As an expert workaround in the meantime one could save the plot to the
session "as an icon" and then try to edit the gnuplot source there.
(Haven't tested if it actually works, for example adding a title.)
