I'd like to take the conservative side here and suggest to release 2016b
without such a change. As you say, it has the potential to mess things
up, and I have repeatedly voiced my concern that gretl sometimes has
more bugs than necessary.
This is not meant to ban this change completely, but allow more time for
a thorough testing phase.
