Very helpful, thanks. That's the mystery solved: the plugin that
gretl needs to work with ODBC is not installed.
In case it's of interest: I have built an RPM of gretl 1.8.7 that
includes the ODBC plugin; it's at
http://ricardo.ecn.wfu.edu/pub/gretl/gretl-1.8.7-1gtk2.i586.rpm
It will require libodbc.so at runtime (when the plugin is invoked,
that is), though that is not written into the RPM as a dependency.
