I've just tried to run ./configure without any options and so install
gretl from cvs to the default path.
After that I haven't been able to run it. From the terminal it looks like this:
moradan@moradan-desktop:/usr/local/bin$ ./gretl
/usr/local/bin/gretl_x11: symbol lookup error:
/usr/local/bin/gretl_x11: undefined symbol: get_gretl_rc_path
moradan@moradan-desktop:/usr/local/bin$ ./gretl_x11
./gretl_x11: symbol lookup error: ./gretl_x11: undefined symbol:
get_gretl_rc_path
And also I haven't been able to launch gretl from the ubuntu-repo. I
reinstalled it with the help of synaptic and now it launches without
the menu-bar as it was with my previous attempts to build gretl from
source. I think something is wrong with gtk-dev libraries. Thanks for
reply.

since you seem to be using a non-standard installation path, I'm
guessing the problems you're getting might be related to that. Not sure
how to solve it though, sorry.
