My understanding is that if a pre-defined R function is called
directly from gretl, error messages from libR will go to stderr as
things stand, and will therefore be invisible in the gretl GUI. But in
standard foreign-block mode you should see error messages from R OK.
I now remember more exactly what I had in mind: Yes, the error message
from gretl is not visible in the script output (GUI), I only see gretl's
message "external command failed".
But the R error is recorded in the $dotdir/R.msg textual output, which
gives you some clue about what went wrong. Don't know whether that's a
copy from stderr, or whether stderr itself will be empty.
