An econometric package is not a spreadsheet. I agree that the
"spreadsheet" approach is intuitive and handy, but a "programming
language" approach is far more powerful.
I suggest you to write a script with all the formulae you need (creation
of new variables, transformations of existing ones and so on) and then
simply run it.
