Could could have happened, which caused it to crash?
The .gretl2rc file is a text file that contains various setting and
preferences. In some rare cases, it could become stale and trigger
unwanted behaviour.
I'm wondering how worthwhile it'd be to add a commandline option "gretl
-i" or something like that to force gretl to ignore this file. It could be
handy at times.
