I am not sure whether a response is expected. I am not a very sophisticated user and
frequently use Excel for diagrams etc.
Using the data querey function, one can easily Import text files into excel.

On the last point: Yes, the effect of pasting into an arbitrary
application after doing "Copy as CSV" on a BIG matrix in gretl may
be "strange", but so far as I can tell this is not gretl's fault; in
my testing it seems to depend on how much data the target
application is willing to accept via the clipboard.
