If this isn't telepathy ... I just wanted to post about the same issue ...
Here is my setting:
Gretl 1.5.0 (01/30/2006)
OpenOffice 2.0
Windows XP
And here are the outcomes:
(1) Copying a graph to the clipboard and pasting into OpenOffice,
either via "Paste" or "Paste Special" leaves large margins at the top
and at the right. Thus, I can confirm John's findings
(2) Saving a graph as an emf (color) file and inserting into
OpenOffice via the "Insert -> Picture" menu works fine :-)
(3) When saving a graph as an emf (monochrome) file and inserting into
OpenOffice via the "Insert -> Picture" menu, one obtains a graph whose
margins are ok, but the graph is still colored.
(4) Copying a graph to the clipboard, using the monochrome option, and
pasting into OpenOffice, either via "Paste" or "Paste Special" gives
again the large margins, but this time, the color scheme is okay in
OpenOffice (i.e. black and white)
By the way, I also tried these operations with Abiword (2.4.2) on
WinXP. The main conclusion is that you should save the graph as png
file and insert it into Abiword. Copying to the clipboard did not
work: the "paste" function in Abiword remained greyed out. Saving the
file as emf was not terrible: I was able to insert an emf file into an
Abiword document, but the colors were inverted. I obtained a graph
with a black background. However, inserting a gretl-generated png file
into Abiword worked just fine :-)
Best wishes,
jean

I forgot to add that gretl graphs pasted into the OpenOffice Write HAVE
THE SAME MARGIN PROBLEM!
