I guess that would be good for the users list. Not so sure about
 points related to the development.
Perhaps we could encourage people to use stackexchange for
question on "how to do this and that" in hansl/gretl and migrate
to a forum for the discussion on development (new features,
 function pachages etc).
A fair number of us are subscribed to both gretl-users and
gretl-devel, and the two lists are equally affected by the change in
WFU's policy, but if people don't mind too much I'd prefer to keep
discussion of the future of these lists separate. We've had a common
format for years but arguably we have (or may have) different needs.
On this particular list, then, I'd rather keep to the "users" topic.
My concern about the stats.stackexchange option is just that
questions on how to do this or that _in hansl/gretl_ may not be very
welcome there. I have the impression that they favour questions on
"how to do this or that" or "how to interpret this or that" in
general terms, although apparently it's OK to specify your question
via a script or script fragment (or output fragment) pertaining to
the software of your choice.
It may be worth quoting the rubric of the "r" tag: "Use this tag for
any *on-topic* question that (a) involves `R` either as a critical
part of the question or expected answer, & (b) is not *just* about
how to use `R`." Not sure how coherent this is, but you can sort of
see what they're getting at ;-)
By contrast, over the years we've tended to say that we're not in
the business of answering general econometrics questions on
gretl-users (though we've actually done so on quite a few
occasions!), but looking for questions specific to gretl.
