I've given RStudio as an example because is not platform dependent,
you can connect to the server from any web browser (tablet/phone,
android/windows/ios). Is not the most elegant solutions but in my
opinion is a simple enough (???) one (for the developers) to take into
consideration, also the code for RStudio is available under GPL and I
was wondering if it's not possible to use some of it in gretl.
This would be a big leap forward for gretl in terms of user
friendliness and capabilities.

No, but one could imagine an Android client app that lets you connect to a
remote server. The app sends hansl command to the server and receives the
output, formatting it suitably. For some users, this would be
indistinguishable from having a local installation of gretl.
