OK, I'll admit I'm totally mystified. As I said, I couldn't
replicate the problem, even on Windows -- that is, a weird error
message on try to save a data file after deleting a series -- so
I've been trying to guess what might be going wrong.
This has been useful to a degree, in that I've cleaned up some old
and possibly questionable code to do with saving data in the gretl
GUI.
But as for permissions problems, well, I've just tried altering
permissions on files or directories so as to make saving impossible
(on Linux) and in each case, when I try to save the data, I've got
a suitable error message telling me that permission is denied.
