Hi there!
First of all thank you very much for your replies about my query to
install gretl on Ubuntu 7.10. However, though I've tried last week to
get it installed, I haven't been able and, since I'm already running
gretl on Mac OSX, i guess this has taken me too long without any step
further. So here's my question: *will there be a binary to easily
install gretl on Ubuntu 8.04*, which is to come next april? If so, i'd
drop my efforts to run it from source and would wait for the next
version of Ubuntu. Otherwise... i don't know yet :)
Let me ask again, what's the gretl version you are interested in? Because...
1. there _is_ a gretl binary distributed with Ubuntu 7.10, namely gretl
1.6.5; of course it's not the latest and greatest, but that's Ubuntu
policy for good reasons. I know that nice features have been added since
1.6.5, but most functionality is in there. So the question is, what
feature do you need that was added after 1.6.5?
2. of course there will be a native gretl binary in Ubuntu 8.04 (aka
Hardy Heron), AFAICS it will be gretl 1.7.1 (see
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/hardy/i386/gretl/1.7.1-3), which is current
as of today.
Nevertheless, if there is a need I guess it would not be a big problem
for me to make a "checkinstall"-ed binary of gretl available for Ubuntu
7.10 (i386 platform) after 1.7.2 is released. (No guarantees though
because I may run into unexpected problems there.)
cheers,
