Data files only can save "rectangular" data: short collections of time
series with the same periodicity or cross-section data.
Scalar may be saved in "session files".
Sorry, but see also section 9.3 in the gretl users' manual. The store command
has a special behavior inside loops, so you can save scalars each time round
the loop to a .gdt data file.
