Oops, my mistake. I did NOT realize we were talking about LAGS. I was indeed refering to diffs, logs and other transformations -- with the importance they have in econometrics (especially time series analysis), clearly any such transformation should be readily apparent. Here is another idea: how about showing available lags NEXT (i.e. to the right) of the variable in case? You could even utilize a special symbol such as a "-1", "-2" superscript/subscript to indicate that the corresponding lag has been computed and is available for use in a model.
