Hi Allin,
I saved a .gdt file as a gretl database. When I wanted to open the
database (.bin file) gretl pops up the error window "data error" and
couldn't load it.

I have to admit that facility is not much tested. Can you send me
your db files (.bin and .idx) offlist, please? It might be
helpful if you could also send the source .gdt file, along with
any notes on how you made the db (variables included/excluded).
I imagine this should be quickly fixable once I see what the issue
is.

For the record, here's what Artur and I found. The gretl database
(.bin file plus .idx file) that Artur created was in fact
well-formed. The "data error" message appeared when he tried to
open the database via drag-and-drop onto the main gretl window.
Two things were not right here: first, opening of databases via
drag-and-drop was not supported and second, the error message was
not informative. Both points are now fixed in CVS and the
snapshots for Windows and OS X. You can drag and drop databases
onto gretl (native gretl ones, RATS 4 or PcGive bn7), and in the
event that you drop a file that gretl cannot handle you should get
a more useful error message.

New subject: on graph labels
Dear Allin
In a time series graph, could it be (easily) possible for the X-axis to
show time labels (i.e. years / months / quarters ...) instead of numbers ?
The trouble with the last is that when you zoom into a particular area
of the plot, the X-axis displays values that give little intuition of
time (eg. for annual data, X-axis shows something like let's say : 2000;
2000.5; 2001; 2001.5...). Things become even stranger with monthly data
showing labels like 2000; 2000.05; 2000.1; 2000.15...
