It might be possible to create a more user-friendly packaging of
the data files for the Mac (e.g. dmg format, with some sort of
auto-detection for where the data ought to be installed), but my
feeling is that this should probably come from the Mac-using
community.
Allin,
I'd built a dmg file that contains the Dougherty's database and a
shortcut to the gretl's database folder. I'd tested on my own mac and it
worked fine, but I'm not sure that it will work in all mac computers.

Thanks, Henrique. As I see it, it should be pretty easy to turn a
tar.gz package into a dmg, but more difficult to automate the
business of installing the files to the right location. Here are
a couple of thoughts:
1) With any luck, the correct path information should be available
in ~/.gretl2rc
gretldir = ...
userdir = ...
so some clever scripting could do the job.
2) This would require a modification to gretl on OS X, but we
could try to support dragging and dropping a dmg data package file
onto the main window of gretl: gretl would then know the correct
path and could make an OS call to unpack the dmg in the right
location.
Allin.
