I have just installed gretl 1.6.5 on my Ubuntu 6.12 (previously 1.5 and windows versions)
and it seems to be working ok but the RESET test in GUI. After estimation in console i can
use RESET, but when estimating a model in GUI and clicking RESET it crashes. That's
the message:

'stack smashing detected' appears after running RESET under GUI.

Are you installing from the rpm on the gretl site, or building
from source? I think this is fixed in CVS, but I'd like to be
able to test that. (If I run current gretl in Polish on my
machine and do a RESET test I'm not hitting this problem.)

I am installing from ubuntu package gretl_1.6.5-1build1_i386.deb
from packages.ubuntu.com. I tried building from source (on
sourceforge) but it returned some errors during compilation.

Ah, OK, good to know such a package is available.
This might help in debugging: Can you tell me if the crash occurs
in these cases:
* estimate a model in the gretl console then type the "reset"
command.
* run a gretl script that estimates a model then does "reset"
Or does it occur only when you select the RESET item from the
Tests menu in the model window?

Apologies. I should have read your first posting more carefully:
the crash was only in GUI mode.
