Apologies to those of you who get duplicates of this message, but I
wanted to broadcast this news as widely as possible.
I'm working towards gretl-1.2.8, which will have many bug fixes
and a few new features. In the meantime a couple of issues have come
up which gretl users may wish to know about, and which you can fix
yourselves: change in the IP address of the gretl database server, and
a bug that affects gretl versions 1.2.6 and 1.2.7 on Windows.
1. Database server: the new IP address is 152.17.49.32. You can
change this under File, Preferences, General, Database. In gretl
1.2.8 the hostname will be stored rather than the IP address, so this
should not be an issue in case of any future changes.
2. Windows bug: Versions 1.2.6 and 1.2.7 failed to create a "user"
directory at install time (people who previously installed older
versions would already have a user directory, and so would be OK).
This gives rise to various problems including failure of graphing
commands. To fix this:
(a) Create a directory called "user" under the gretl installation
directory. For example if gretl is in c:\userdata\gretl, the
directory or folder to create is c:\userdata\gretl\user .
OR
(b) Download gretl_install.exe again from sourceforge -- I have
replaced the original with a fixed version, a "pre" version of 1.2.8.
If you do this you should run the uninstall program that comes with
gretl first, *then* run the new installer.
