Hi, I'm getting reproducible crashes of the latest snapshot on windows
whenever I try to open the Data menu.
However, this only happens with the German translation loaded, so I
suppose it could be my fault as the current German translator ;-)
I could need some help investigating the causes though...
Any advice is appreciated,

This is mysterious. I can confirm the crash on accessing the Data
menu, with the German translation but not in English or with the
other translations (this is on Linux).
I fixed a few minor problems in de.po relating to the Data menu, but
that didn't make any difference. I'm getting these symptoms from
pango:
(lt-gretl_x11:31400): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_widget_get_pango_context:
assertion `GTK_IS_WIDGET (widget)' failed
(lt-gretl_x11:31400): Pango-CRITICAL **: pango_context_get_language:
assertion `context != NULL' failed
I've tried getting a backtrace, but it's all inside gtk (and it
looks as if the stack has been smashed). I'll see what else I can
think of.

Found it! There was a trailing slash on the end of one of the
German menu items:
msgid "/Data/_Summary statistics"
msgstr "/Daten/Grundlegende Statistiken/"
With the slash removed, no crash.

Wow, thanks for doing my work. If I had known how a translation can mess
up things I probably wouldn't have dared to do it... so it's good that
those snapshots exist to test before a release.

New subject: Translating the manual
Cri Rigamonti asked a while back about translating the chapters of
the Gretl User's Guide on saved objects (persistent.tex) and
matrices (matrices.tex). I had indicated that these were rather
fluid drafts, and Cri wanted to know when they had stabilized.
I think I'd say at this point, go ahead. The saved objects chapter
is incomplete still, but what's there is fairly stable. The
matrices chapter may be subject to some changes, but probably not
more than other chapters.

New subject: Gretl Thanks
Hello Gretl List,
There has much increasing activity on the list, a good sign I think.
It seems like a good time to thanks to Allin, Jack, et al, for all the
work they have put into Gretl.
I TA'd Colorado State's EC335, took the time-series EC435, and
the grad econometric classes EC535, EC635, and EC735. For
nearly all the work Eviews was the system of choice (I did get the
335 instructor to use Gretl). Eviews had a steep learning curve,
so I wrote short papers on how to use Eviews that are still being
circulated among the grad students, as the program seems to be
a nightmare for those trying to learn econometrics and econometric
software at the same time.
Now I have my own econometrics class to teach at University of
Northern Colorado. I started my students off on Gretl and have not
heard a whimper. They are just running regressions. In fact, I've
showed a couple of tricks with the command line and session window
only to hear, "cool" from the group. So, not only my thanks to the
Gretl folks, but congratulations on building and maintaining a truly
great piece of intuitive and useful software.
