OK, so (please correct me if I'm wrong) you're trying to install the gretl 2023a package for intel Mac from sourceforge on macOS Ventura (13.2.1), and the error message you're getting is not that the pkg file "can't be opened" (which would indicate a security problem) but that "The installation failed" (indicating some unspecified problem). I've now tested installation of gretl 2023a for M1 on macOS 13.2.1, and gretl 2023a for Intel on macOS 10.15.7 (Catalina), in both cases without any problem. I'm not able to test the exact combination of macOS version and processor that you describe, so right now I have no idea what's going wrong. However, there's one resource that might be helpful: the "console" app that should appear under Applications/Utilities and that displays messages about various goings-on on a Mac. Could you please try again to install gretl, and see if the console output includes any hint of what the problem was?
