I've just tried the current gretl snapshot with R 2.14.0 and 2.14.1 on Windows 7, and R started OK. One thing is that you need to let R write version information to the Windows registry or gretl can't find it. You can perhaps get more information on the problem by starting gretlw32.exe with the --debug option. This opens a console window displaying any information that's written to stderr.
