Script Questions
by Henrique
Dear Gretl Community,
I would like ask you two questions:
*Question 1*
To save a OLS model with a specific name I can use *Example1 <- ols x1 const
x2 x3 --robust --quiet*, but if I would like to name the model as Example 1
(with a space between Example and 1), according to Gretl manual, I can write
*"Example 1" <- ols x1 const x2 x3 --robust --quiet*, am I correct? When a
proceed in that way I get an error message. The only way it works is without
the options *--robust --quiet*.
*Question 2*
Is it possible to insert some instruction on a Gretl script file in order to
make Gretl recognize what operational system it is running on? More
specifically, I would like to make a script to use on both of my computers
(Windows based and OS/X based). Something like this:
If the operational system is Windows do this: ...
If the operational system is OS/X do this: ...

newbie question
by student09@web.de
Hi there
sorry in case my questions are somewhat misplaced in this email list (I suspect they are...); however, I was unable to find any other email-lists/forums
discussing problems related to time series analyses.
I would like to do a vector autoregression analysis for two variables. Obviously, this can be done in a straightforward matter using Gretl.
However, both variables actually refer to count data. So I thought that doing a VAR time-series model for poisson-distributed variables might be appropriate - does anybody know any literature/examples in this regard? I am quite unexperienced in time series models but have a background in SEM/Multilevel modelling, so I am just guessing which kind of models might be appropriate here...
Also - and also not directly related to Gretl - I realized that after differencing, the distribution of the residuals of the variables is actually gaussian. Wouldn't it then make sense to refrain from any specific distributions for count data and 'simply' go ahead with the usual estimation procedures for normal-distributed variables???
I would be very thankful for your comments (and/or hints to gretl-syntax examples for doing time-series models for count data other than the one in the user manual)
Many thanks!
Jan

Thank you very much, the command
sudo localedef -i es_ES -f UTF-8 es_ES
is OK, to set spanish language.

ñ en Gretl
by Hebert Suarez Cahuana

SARIMA(X), some theoretical and pratictal questions
by alisson rocha
Hello people,
i have two questions:
1) I´m studying a sarima(x) model about beer consumption with a dummy variable to a local holiday that happen in february or march, and the dummy aim to control this (1 in the month with this particular holiday and 0 without it).
In gretl, can i estimate this model using the 'command' below(using the dummy as exogenous variable)?
arima p d q; P D Q; dependent_variable dummy_variable
2) The other is a model about net revenues from a local oil company, where i want to use a sarimaX with brent price(the barrel) as exogenous variable. In this case, both variables(net
revenues and brent price) have to be stationary? In gretl, can i estimate it using the command below?
arima p d q; P D Q; dependent_variable brent_oil
Thanks all,
regards.
Natal,Brazil.

wiki for function packages
by Sven Schreiber
Hi,
I believe it would be good to have a web page where existing and future
function packages are described. Since ideally there will be many
package authors a wiki seems well suited for that. What do you think of
that? And could the general gretl wiki (the one that's managed by Jack)
be used?
just an idea,

license of gretl script
by chris
Hi,
I have written some gretl scripts which I would like to publish, but it
seems like some parts of it are covered, or might be covered, by
patents. But I think I could publish the code with some strings
attached, i.e. only use in academia, no allowance to give code to
somebody else.
Now my question is, if it is possible to publish gretl script code under
my own terms, or whether gretl scripts are a derived work of gretl and
must be GPL licensed when they are distributed?
For example perl can be GPL licensed, too, but under
http://dev.perl.org/licenses/ the developers give the permission to
distribute perl code under a non-free license.
I didn't found any thread on this topic on the mailing-list, so if this
has already been discussed, I'm sorry?
